Urges that stick--
I just posted this description of differing urges. Can anyone explain the urge that we all have defined for us (as 2-3 minutes long) vs. the one that lasts for hours and hours? It is those hour long urges that kill me. They are not the same, but what makes them different? Any advice will help... Below is my description in my journal about it:I said earlier that no urge had its talons in me. Maybe a bit melodramatic, but I really want to differentaiate that from the urges that come and go. The ones that show up,quit smoking, and you let them flow through you like a zen master. They hurt sure, but hurting is part of this wide world of life and we peacefully watch it come and go while our mind moves on to other things. The second is the urge that shows up and sets up shop in your head. You try to politely tell it to go away, but it won't. Then you get mad at it showing up. Then you get mad at the humidity in the room. After that it is because the damn Red Wings didn't keep Lidstrom on the point for the second part of that power play, then why did Arrested Development ever get cancelled, who is John Galt???? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU STILL DOING HERE YOU DUMB DAMN URGE,quit smoking now, I DON'T WANT YOU HERE.But here it is and here is stays. Those are the ones that I mean 'get their talons in'. I mean an urge that you don't simply shake off. An urge that brings up a point that you are specifically weak to fight at this moment. It gives it a nest to fester in and grow stronger then move to your next weak defense. You are not ready to quit your entier life, so why should you right now? And the next defense etc...Little help!
